I eat my family with dinner

October 30, 2009

I couldnt help but laugh out loud during the 7th grade test correction class, when i saw the sentence which is the title of this post.  The girl who wrote it looked at me with a confused and slightly offended look, at least until i told her what she wrote.  It was a good time.

test grades for the recent mid term, were reasonably low, though i guess its to be expected for difficult tests. Except for the 7th graders.  It was incredibly wasy and I think its safe to say that any score below  was due to negligence.  For the 8th and 9th grades, the average was about 58, which i feel like is pretty low for kids in such grades.  I guess maybe i dont remember what grades were like when i was in school though.  Another thing to be concerned with, however, is the rediculous grading methology which the JTEs take.  Take for example the following answer, to a problem which was just to change the words into the correct order.  Meaning was not part of the problem

“My mother always tells me to study hard” original correct answer.

“My mother tells me to always study hard” <– I told the teacher that this has to be accepted as well, since its not wrong. originally 0 points, but 3 because i said.

“My mother tells me always to study hard” <– I think this works as well by grammatical technicality. ended up as 0 points for the students

then another problem was, to answer the question, “Who made Rumi’s yellow ribbon”

I think the only answer that was awarded the full 3 points, was “Her mother did.”

“Her mother.” -2

“It was made by her mother.” -2 (a more difficult sentence structure)

I realize that they want them to speak in proper sentences, but srsly,”It was made by her mother.” should be a full score.

I would say things about this but i know its futile.  They just wont listen.

One kid who is a NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER didnt get 100 points on his test because he only wrote a one word answer for “whats your favorite sport”.  Hes better at english than the danm teacher.  Class has got to be really damn frustrating for him.

Yuudai is an all around little son of a bitch.  He tries often to gain some sort of petty power over me and try to control me with it.  He fails consistently because i just dont care.    A few months ago a wrote on the back of some piece of paper, (during a test or something serious) some smart ass comment. This comment pissed me off, ( he is skilled at pissing me off), so i ripped it from his hands and in half.  It turns out that he intentionally wrote it on the back of something that was apparently important.  He tried to make me feel as if i had done something bad, but after i told him that if it was an important document, that he was wrong for writing dumb ass shit on the back of it.  I informed his also of the fact that i dont care.  After about 3 days he finally realized that i didnt care, and i made him rewrite it, because for some reason he still had not.  He like to try this type of thing.

And so, a few weeks ago, a girl in class who almost never rases her hand, raised her hand.  So i pointed out to the ofher teacher to call on her.  then after class, Yuudai comes up and asks me if i like that girl student.  Why? idk.  but i answer “Of course i do, i like all of you”  I also feel like even in the event that i didnt like the said person, that as a teacher, “No” isnt something that i should answer to that question.  Teachers shouldnt say that they dont like their students imo.

Although i had made myself clear, as you might imagine, Yuudai, despite knowing exactly what i meant, decided to take the words i said beyond their literal meaning and tell his class that im in love ith a 13 year old girl.  The students who chose to believe this gasped as i walked by them the other day, and i was reasonably confused, until i heard some things they whispered poorly to their friends.  i can tell that most of them dont sincerly believe it, but its still wierd.  I guess this believing this type of thing is a pretty reasonable thing to expect  of 8th graders.   I also feel like that type of thing wouldnt even be considered in the US.  because what the fuck.

new topic.

So yesterday, I was looking at hey chains that the 9th graders had made, they were set out on a table for everyones vieing pleasure.  The assignment was apperently to make a character of yourself.  I was only there for a few seconds before Tomo came up to me and asked me to find hers without looking at the names.  I accidentally saw her name before i guessed, so it ruined the game.  after that she hid the names with her hand and made me guess the names of the other ones.  I actually got like 7 or 8 correct answers in a row.   which is pretty impressive really, since many of them are random shit, like one was an eggplant with glasses, another some sort of mole, then there was a panda as well, and one that was some indefined creature.

halloween

is tomorrow.

But we celebrated today at school since tomorrow is saturday.  I convinced the principar that it was necessary for me to bring in chocolate for all the kids at lunch time.  As easy as this might sound, it was really an inconcievably difficult feat that i accomplished today.

Tomorrow i will be purchasing a camera.  Its something i have needed since i lost my awesome red one on welcome week a few years ago.  Its main purpose will be to document Halloween in Kofu (the capital of yamanashi) Im especially excited for this year since i was sick last year and couldnt really do anything holloween weekend.  It was unfun in bed.

I just need to find vampire teeth.

the lack of general celebration on this country leads to difficulty finding costume accessories.

“My mother tells me always to study”

pretty sure this is very correct. dunno what the exercise’s objective was apart from giving a correct answer.

I’m excited that you’re going to be getting a camera.
